The Research & Development Director (EDD) is responible for providing project
organizational leadership for Exploratory Candidate Management Teams (ECMTs),
and is accountable for setting strategic direction, time, budget and quality
objectives, and delivering assigned projects against those objectives from Pre-CAN/CAN
through proof-of-concept (POC) to full development. Key goals of this position
include: accountability for setting the strategic direction of the project by
formulating a development plan and ensuring that it is aligned with corporate
goals/strategies; accountable for project level goals including delivery of
key regulatory submissions and approvals while meeting time, budget and quality
objectives; accountable for integrated (rolled-up) budget; manage key interdivisional
interfaces on project issues including Research and Commercial groups, serve
as a point of contact and project representative to site based ED governance
bodies; negotiate for resources required for project success; manage orgnaizational
relationships and leverage line expertise to achieve goals; and lead/manage
team performance to deliver the candidate.
Prior experience should include: strong track record of leading teams to evaluate
new therapies in the pharmaceutical industry; technical experience in a discipline
associated with drug development; experience in budgetary management and fiscal
awareness; and knowledge of issues that drive early stage development projects.
The successful candidate should also exhibit a keen sense of influencing, bigger
picture/strategic thinking, courage with decisiveness to act, networking/alliance
building, inspirational leadership, and understanding stakeholder needs. An
advanced Degree or equivalent experience in a scientific and/or Project Management
discipline is required.
